Since Ernst Friedrich Loosen took over in 1988, the estate has been called Weingut Dr. Loosen. The property was originally two estates that merged through marriage: Weingut Zach-Bergweiler-Prüm- Erben Dr. Adams of Bernkastel and Weingut Dr. Loosen Paul Loosen Erben of Ürzig.
Vineyard Size and Grape Varieties:
The estate’s 10.5 ha (26 acres) of vines are planted exclusively with Riesling.
Bernkasteler Lay; Graacher Himmelreich; Wehlener Sonnenuhr; Ürziger Würzgarten; Erdener Treppchen and Prälat.
Moderate yields, selective harvesting in the autumn, gentle pressing and minimal handling in the cellar up to the optimal point of maturation are the basis of the estate’s wine production.
Up to one half of the wines are exported; the rest are sold to private customers, restaurateurs and the specialty trade.
The estate is located ca.800 meters (half a mile) downstream from Bernkastel on the right side of the Mosel.
